China University of Geosciences founded in 1952, is a national key university associated with the Ministry of Education. CUG is also listed in the National “211 Project”, the “985 Innovation Platform for Advantageous Disciplines” and the “Double First-class Plan”.
The school (CUG), featuring geosciences, is an extensive university that also offers a variety of degree programs such as science, engineering, literature, management, economics, law, education and the arts. Its Geology and Geological Resources and Engineering have both been ranked as national number one disciplines. Its Earth Science, Engineering, Environmental Studies & Ecology, Materials Science, Chemistry, and Computer Science have entered the top 1% of global ESI (Essential Science Indicators), with Earth Science in the top 1‰ of the list.
CUG now has 2 campuses in Wuhan City. The main campus is the Optics Valley Campus, situated in the heart of the Wuhan East Lake National Innovation Demonstration Zone, which is famous as China Optics Valley. The Future City Campus is located in the east of Wuhan and is 27 km from the main campus. These 2 picturesque campuses cover a combined area of 1,421,758 m2. They are ideal places to study, work, and enjoy life. The university also boasts 4 field training centers such as Zhoukoudian in Beijing, Beidaihe in Hebei Province, Zigui in Hubei Province, and Badong in Hubei Province.
China University Of Geoscience has established a complete education system. As of October 2018, 26,103 regular students, as well as 18,140 undergraduate students, 6,312 master’s students, and 1,651 doctoral students have enlisted in its subsidiary 19 schools and 86 research institutes. CUG currently has a faculty of 1,804 regular teachers, among which there are 505 professors (9 of which are members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences) and 882 associate professors.
The school is focused on fostering high-quality talent. Among its over 200,000 graduates, many have gone to become scientific and technological elites, statesmen, business leaders and athletes. And they have made great contributions to the nation and society, represented by former Premier WEN Jiabao and 37 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.
CUG has an excellent exchanges and cooperation with international universities. It has signed friendly cooperation agreements with more than 150 universities from the United States, France, Australia, Russia and some other countries. The school has strongly carried out academic, scientific and cultural exchanges with universities around the world. There are about 1,000 international students from over 90 countries studying at CUG. It also sponsors more than 900 teachers and students to study abroad or conduct international exchanges, and invites around 400 international experts to visit, lecture, and teach at this university every year.
In 2012, CUG initiated and co-established the International University Consortium in Earth Science (IUCES) with 11 other well recognized universities. IUCES is committed to promoting the common development of geosciences education and scientific research through resource sharing, exchange and cooperation among its member institutions. Besides, CUG has partnered with Bryant University from USA, Alfred University from USA, and Veliko Tarnovo University from Bulgaria in establishing 3 Confucius Institutes on their campuses.

After you are admitted, we will inform you via email for your confirmation of acceptance. Afterward, we will issue the admission letter, JW201/202 Form for visa application. If you wish to live on campus, please complete the Housing Application form.
Prepare Your Departure:
Before your departure, be sure to take the following materials:

(4) Official Foreigner Physical Examination Form and your blood test report.
Be aware that the orientation is mandatory for freshman students.
Apply for a course in a Chinese University is very easy. Students just have to follow some steps to apply for their favorite course. In order to help students complete their online application, International students are recommended to follow the following simple instructions. International applicants must provide the following documents to apply:
1. Application Form fills in Chinese or in English.
2. Passport & Passport Size Photo (Scan copy of the applicant’s )
3. Transcripts & Certificates (Must be Notarized Copy )
For Bachelor Degree applicants, they need to only provide high school transcripts and certificates. And for Master Degree applicants, they need to show their undergraduate transcripts and certificates. Applicants for Doctorate Degree have to provide their both (undergraduate and graduate) transcripts and certificates.
Note: All the applicants degree (Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate) transcripts and certificates should be notarized and language should be in Chinese or English version.
4. English Proficiency Certificate
In China, some universities does not asked IELTS but if you study in Chinese Taught for CSC scholarship, English Proficiency Certificate need to have ready. If you have IELTS already then you are lucky to study in China without delay.
5. CV/Resume
Applicants must have to make their CV if you want to study abroad in your desired country. In your Resume or CV, there have to be your academic qualifications with results, personal details (name, date of birth, marital status, national Id or school Id, physical address, contact no, nationality, language, etc), reference from your institution’s faculty (his/her name, address and designation), personal achievement, etc. To know how to make a standard CV please click here the sample of The Resume.
6. Study Plan or Research Proposal
Applicants for graduate studies need a study plan or research proposal in Chinese or in English (no less than 800 words). This document required only for Ms or PhD applicants.
7. Recommendation Letter
Applicants for all graduate studies need two letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English). Letters must be include professors’ phone number and email address. Here is the sample of Recommendation Letter
8. Published Academic Papers or Other Academic Achievements (if applicable).
9. Foreign Physical Examination
Applicants are expected to keep the original copies filled in English. The medical examination must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. 10. Bank Statement
Bank statements must show to any foreign country for the purpose of a visitor or a business or an immigrants. For the study purpose in foreign countries also need to show bank statement. So dear applicants, you will need to have ready your all documents. Sponsorship can be your parents or anyone whom are your blood related.
11. Police Verification (No Criminal Record)
This is also need to have ready for the study purpose. It is important because foreign country does not allow criminal record. A Police Clearance Certificate is an official document approved by the police or government agencies in order to prove that the applicant has no criminal offense against him/her like arrest, conviction. Scholarships in China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) for International Student
Hubei Provincial Scholarship
In order to development of study abroad in China and increase the use efficiency of scholarship for international students, Hubei Province has established regulations of Hubei Provincial Scholarships Management for the purpose of talents cultivation, scientific research, social service and cultural exchanges in universities and colleges.
1. Application Requirement
A. Applicants should be foreign citizens with valid passport and obey to Chinese law.

China University of Geosciences(CUG) established in 1952. It is a member of China’s project “211” of key state universities affiliated with China Ministry of Education(MOE), and also is the research center and talent training base of Earth Sciences, Resources and Environment in China. The university has a complete and optimized multidisciplinary system, as well as disciplines of science, engineering, literature, management, economics, law, pedagogy, and philosophy.
The school is one of the national key comprehensive universities. It has integrated training system of undergraduate, master, doctoral and postdoctoral. CUG has national and provincial level key laboratories and engineering centers. The faculty members of CUG about 1300, among them 9 are Academicians of Chinese Academy of Science. It has a complete teaching facilities, advanced research equipment, rich library and museum collections, convenient transportation and beautiful campus.
At present, CUG has an academic institutions around 19 Colleges, offering altogether 57 undergraduate programs, 76 master programs and 39 doctoral programs. Now its registered regular students admission up to 20,000, of whom 500 are international students. At the same time, the university is the host institute of Chinese Government Scholarship students. China University Of Geoscience has recruited international students since 1980’s.
Now In CUG there are more 400 overseas students studying degree, and each year several hundreds of international students visit our campus as short-term or exchange students. In addition, CUG has already set up different items of scholarship programs such as the “distinguished Scholarship for overseas students,” with the aim to encourage those international students whom wants to shine both at study and disposition, sponsoring their academic pursuit in China.
